But a few years after Independence, teaching of Urdu was also discontinued, because it was considered that it is a language of Muslims, who left Punjab for good. But after a lapse of more than half a century, it has again been decided to introduce Urdu from the primary classes. Much emphasis is placed on the physical fitness of the workers. All are encouraged to take exercise during office hours. This is somewhat like the physical training class in our schools. Men and women join in it. Stress is also placed on safety. Before joining routine duty, employees are offered a week’s training in safety methods. There are no peons in offices. If papers have to be sent from one desk to another the person must do it himself. If a letter has to be typed, the official will type it himself. They must perform their duties with great responsibility and on war-footing. Every teacher must not wait that some supervisory staff will check his or her work and leae instructions to improve their work. Where there is will, their must be a way out. In many countries even universities are being run by privately organised social societies. Here in our villages, it is not difficult to run primary schools on privately organized social societies with the help of experienced and retired persons and others whosoever want to put in their honorary service. Eminent well-wishers of our country must agree that education is the only powerful source for creating a good society. Teachers of village schools must realise on moral ground that their menal and moral make-up is matter of great concern for the future of students taught by them.
